Your Metabolism is ALWAYS On
Your metabolism is always working to convert the macronutrients (food) consumed in your diet into adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the chemical that fuels muscle contractions.
During periods of higher activity, whether planned exercise or frantically running through an airport to make a connection, your body requires more energy, measured in calories, than when at rest (Note: a calorie is just a measure of unit of energy, it’s the energy required to heat one liter of water by one degree centigrade). Pro tip: your body is ALWAYS expending energy at a rate of 5-7 calories per pound of muscle, per day.
